Isla’s Tunnel

If you are in Boracay, another resort hotel worth seeing is Hotel Isla Boracay. Try to be there before sunset. The pictures would tell you why. Twenty minutes walk from Station 3 and it’s located in the quiet southern end of White Beach. Very few people pass this area unlike in Station 2 where the crowd is denser. A big chunk of the land on this part of the island belongs to the resort and a large portion of the hotel complex are still undergoing development. Part of the property including a hotel building was formerly owned by Lorenzo South.

The thing that will really captivate you once you are in the hotel premises is the tunnel that serves as a passageway between the bar/restaurant and the hotel’s access road above. It’s a twenty meter tunnel with green decorative lights planted on both sides. At night, the lights give a soft glow to the tunnel and enhance the pale yellow paint on the rugged wall and ceiling. The tunnel’s mouth is facing the beach while on the other end, a big sculpture of the Blessed Virgin Mary standing in repose awaits everyone that comes out.

When we were there, we had a chance to watch an on-going pictorial of a young couple for their wedding invites and after a few minutes of standing at the tunnel’s entrance, the lamps were lighted. I overheard muted ohhs and wows from my companions and from a number of people that witnessed the photo shoot. Outside, colorful Christmas lights brightened the beach area and transformed the place into a tropical Christmas village. If Santa was here, he would surely jump for joy and probably he could think of skinny dipping under the moonlight. No warm and delightful beach such as this back in the North Pole.

The couple was having fun inside the tunnel while the photographer was busy taking several shots in different angles. Later on they walked down to the cabanas to have a souvenir shot of the spectacular sunset. We watched until they were finished.  As the sun slowly disappeared from the horizon, we stripped our t-shirts to cool our bodies in the calm, tempting waters. We swam for an hour. No skinny dipping happened.
