Jaro Fiesta: A Showcase of Native Delicacies

Every fiesta in Jaro, the plaza and its environs turn into an instant market just like what we see in other towns during market day or during fiestas. Potteries, candles, plastic flowers, shell crafts, toys, cheap clothing and accessories were on display under makeshift tents and kiosks overflowing from the streets. Food vendors also know where they can make money and they know too that Ilonggos are fond of eating. Although it may take a while to find your way through the crowd but once you find what you want, you can’t resist from buying because they’re cheap and we have always that craving for native foods.

The native food stalls are usually found in the corner of the plaza in front of SM Jaro. There you could find gantas and gantas of pinipig and rolls and rolls of baye-baye from different towns like Sta. Barbara and Pavia. Puto, ibos, kutsinta, bitso-bitso and other rice food products were also on display. Boiled peanuts and steamed yellow corn on a cob were sold on pushcarts that move around where a throng of people passes by. Bibingka stalls line up from the old belfry up to the Evangelical Baptist Church. So if you are in Jaro during the fiesta you will never go hungry. Just don’t forget to bring some extra cash.
